The club was formed in a corner store/milk bar next to Dennis Station on South Crescent and trained at a ground called Smith’s Paddock near by (this land is now Westgarth Primary School). Dennis joined the Jika CA for the season 1932/33, and played in B grade.
The very first game was scheduled on the 1st and 8th October 1932 against Cramer at McDonnell Park. C. Constance (5/23), bowled Cramer out for 70, Dennis in reply were 8/131(dec). On the second day, Cramer were bowled out for 37 (Constance 2/4). An outright victory.
Dennis went on to win the 1932/33 B Grade Premiership. Norm Smith had a great finals series. In the Semi final against Highview, Norm Smith scored 161 no in a total of 334 (this following 102 no in the last round). In the final he made 87 out of a team total of 139 and then 68 no out of 2/134. Penders Grove Footballers were dismissed for 105 & 166, Smith taking 10 for the match (4/22 & 6/46). In fact, Norm Smith’s last 4 innings netted him 418 runs for once out. E.Noel took 8/6 against F.G.Smiths & Mayfield 8/28 against Northcote A.O.F. during the year as well.
Jika held a representative game where A grade played B grade, B grade won scoring 199 (N.Smith 54) to A grade 182.
The Dennis Cricket club would be promoted to A grade after winning the B grade premiership.
