Vale Maurie Moat
Date of Event Dennis Cricket Club : Wed Jun 10, 2020 12:25AM

It is with great regret that the club has recently found out that Maurie Moat has passed away.

Maurie played his first game for the club on 2nd October 1965, he opened the batting in A grade scoring 36 and taking 1 for 15 with the ball. For the next 5 seasons he would open the batting in A grade scoring 1296 runs at 18.25.

After 10 years away from the club he would return in 1981.  The club had gone through some hard times after being relegated from A grade for the first time. He returned as captain of the second XI, and a long with Roy Dixon and Russell Brown would nurture the new breed of kids coming through.  He played a further 17 years at the club finishing up in 1998 into his 70’s.

He was honoured with Life membership of the club in 1988. In total he played for 22 seasons, playing 222 games, and scoring 4421 runs. He also took 44 wickets as a part time bowler.

He was known to be an entertainer, loved his sing-alongs and was famous for playing the spoons at the club on a Saturday night.  Originally from England, he loved to talk about playing cricket in England and his playing days at Manchester City Football Club.

From all the past and present Dennis Cricket Club Family, thank you for your time and efforts with us, you were very well respected by all.

Maurie Moat, R.I.P.
